The building envelope includes all exterior components of a building: the roof, the walls, the windows, the skylights, building control joints, windows, doors, wall caps, and so on, both metal and masonry. Each of these components can let moisture intrude into the building if not properly maintained. The building envelope is an integral part of any building; however, it is frequently the most neglected portion.
Sidewall maintenance is the maintenance of all walls of your building, including windows and skylights. This maintenance involves regular inspection of all walls, windows, and skylights for any developing cracks or defects. Caulking is then used to seal gaps and joints, eliminating moisture intrusions and making the building envelope watertight.
